The term “Tales from 1001 Nights” is firmly associated with oriental stories such as “Sinbad the Sailor” or “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves”. One of the best-known stories is the children’s play on the forest stage in Sigmaringendorf, “Aladin and the Magic Lamp”. A three-man directing team from the club’s own offspring will stage the play, which will premiere on Saturday, June 10, according to a press release from those responsible for the Waldbühne. Flying carpets, a mysterious genie and a beautiful princess, these are the ingredients from which the story regarding the street boy Aladin is knitted. With finesse, audacity, but also luck and a magical helper, Aladin succeeds in winning the heart of the princess.
Aladdin’s story probably did not belong to the original collection of fairy tales from 1001 Nights. It initially contained stories for adults. Nevertheless, the stories most likely added later by a European are the best known today: the children’s tales of Aladdin, Ali Baba or Sinbad. The Waldbühne shows “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp”. A play that is characterized by technical challenges, but above all by oriental images and moods, costumes and props and by the romantic and sometimes funny adventures of Aladdin.
A team of up-and-coming directors is responsible for the staging. The siblings David and Eva Stebich, together with Helena Pfäffle, have taken on the task of coordinating around 100 helpers for the 1001 Nights. The number of participants is over 60, plus many actors in the background.
There are still tickets available for all performances until the end of the season on July 30th, which can be purchased via www.waldbuehne.de or on Mondays and Wednesdays by telephone on 07571 3520. The adult play “Buona Sera Mrs. Campbell” premieres on July 8 and runs through early September.
