Experience Louisiana’s Heritage: The Annual Louisiana Crawfish Festival in Chalmette

2023-11-13 08:00:00

Shrimp boats and oyster luggers fishing at bayous are part of Louisiana’s heritage. The annual Louisiana Crawfish Festival is celebrating this heritage every March at the Sigur Cultural Center (St. Bernard Parish Government Complex site) in Chalmette, Louisiana. Founded in 1975, the festival has become one of the significant tourist attractions of the state.

Surrounded by moss-covered trees with a view of the Mississippi River, the festival brings lots of joy to all fans of Cajun cuisine. Visitors can try dozens of crawfish dishes: crawfish bread, crawfish pies, crawfish jambalaya, and much more. Cajun live music, arts and crafts, midway with rides, and the giant Ferris wheel contribute to the unique atmosphere of this event.

Children will love carnival games with flashing lights, which challenge youngsters’ skills to pop balloons, throw rings, or shoot hoops. The Arts and Crafts fair offers everything from cups and straw hats to home decor items, license plates, and key chains. Live music lineups include many acts by local musicians and those from the neighboring states, like Rick Mocklin, Nola Rouge, Nashville South, Chase Tyler Band, Faith Becnel, the Music Krewe, Voodoo Gumbo, The Chee Weez, and MoJEAUX.

Louisiana Crawfish Festival runs from 5 pm on Thursday and Friday and from 11 am during the weekend. Admission to the festival is free on Thursday, $5 on Friday, and $10 on Saturday and Sunday.
