According to a press release from the department of Nasser Bourita, this mobility operation took into account the significant presence of the Moroccan community in certain regions of the world. Thus, the consulates of Tripoli and Benghazi in Libya will be reopened, and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Miami will be operational, in order to relieve the pressure on the Consulate General of Morocco in New York and the consular services in Washington.

The same source indicates that “among the newly appointed Consuls General, 39% are women, occupying important consular posts, notably in the United States, Canada and Italy”. “This has increased the overall rate of female Consuls General from 28% in 2022 to 37% in 2023,” the statement said.

With a view to promotion, 22% of the positions were allocated to Consuls General who succeeded in their previous mission, in order to occupy more strategic or more important consular positions. In addition, 26% of new Consuls General are former Consuls General with experience of responsibility within the Central Service or at the level of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Posts, highlighting their consular expertise.

In addition, in a balance between rejuvenation and confirmed experience, 52% of the Consuls General concerned by this movement are appointed for the first time.

Among all new appointments, 78% of people have previously held a consular post, while 22% come from other areas of diplomacy.

Finally, with a view to promoting the consular sector, two Directors and a former Director of the Central Administration have been appointed Consuls General.
