Major General Ahmed Rashid, Governor of Giza, inspected the expansion and development project of the 15th of May Bridge in the Agouza district, in light of the state’s plan to raise the efficiency of the road network and traffic axes in the governorate, in a way that contributes to eliminating traffic jams.

The Governor of Giza explained that the project includes a number of implementation stages, foremost of which is the expansion of the bridge to reach five lanes in each direction instead of the current two lanes, and raising the efficiency and development of part of the current bridge, which began to bear fruit before the end of the project, whether on the bridge or on the surface road. And the creation of new rises and houses to break up traffic density and facilitate traffic between the governorates of Cairo and Giza, stressing that the state pays great attention to developing the road network and traffic axes in the governorate, which receives continuous care from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, to achieve the development renaissance and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The governor referred to the removal and cracking of part of the bridge body in the area located at the end of Arab League Street, which has been located since 1975 AD, where the necessary tests were conducted for the concrete columns of the bridge, in that sector, through specialized consulting offices, which proved the end of the life span of concrete and its unsuitability for continuity and does not accommodate traffic loads. The new bridge, especially following the completion of the entire development project, which necessitated its removal in order to preserve public safety and the creation of a new bridge to facilitate the process of linking with the current bridge, pointing to the provision of the necessary traffic alternatives and the development of new rises and houses to facilitate traffic movement, which were not affected by the removal works.

The governor’s tour included an inspection of the ongoing work stages at Lieutenant General Kamal Amer’s axis in the sector being implemented to link with the ring road heading to the October regions, the area of ​​the Western Munira district, and the path of the monorail project at the end of Al-Safatawi Street.

The governor instructed the head of the district to paint the properties overlooking the axis and move one of the random markets following providing an alternative location for the sellers, in order to preserve the civilized form of the area.
