Expanding Training Offer and Alliances at the University of Mons for 2023-2024 Academic Year

The authorities of the University of Mons (UMons) launched the 2023-2024 academic year this Thursday in Mons by announcing an extensive training offer with, in particular, a new master’s degree in civil engineering in energy engineering and the alliance two universities and three colleges as part of the project “GoProf !”.

The Haute Ecole Albert Jacquard, the Haute Ecole en Hainaut, the provincial Haute Ecole Condorcet, the UMons and the ULB have decided to put their strengths and skills into teaching teams for the benefit of the training of future teachers in the provinces of Namur and from Hainault. The project “GoProf !” is reflected, in particular, in the implementation of a “codiplômation” and obtaining a university master’s degree in Education. New inter-university certificates are also announced in 2023-2024, among others in the field of teaching French as a foreign language, public management, mental health philosophies.

The trend in enrollmentUMons for the new academic year promises to be in the top 3 of the last twelve years with, at the end of August, some 1,200 first-time registrants. Registration continues until September 30.

The new Campus Charleroi

The university authorities also took stock of the university’s infrastructures. The new Campus Charleroi will be inaugurated on September 8, and a new village hall will officially open at the start of the school year in the former archive premises of the Warocqué building in Mons. A new student city “Kennedy” will offer, from mid-September, around a hundred new homes. The university is gradually increasing its offer of kots which is currently insufficient. It receives 2,500 requests every year. However, it currently manages just under 1,000 accommodation for students. His goal is to double his supply.

Many other sites, for housing projects and new academic premises, are also on the agenda.

The European University Alliance “Eunice”

The Mons university authorities also underlined their role in the European University Alliance “Eunice”, whose presidency is currently held by the rector of UMons, Philippe Dubois. Research at UMons, an essential center of the university, today relies on 1,000 researchers and 500 doctoral students. “Thanks to the quest for quality and excellence, UMons is recognized nationally and internationally”, said Philippe Dubois. The official start of the academic year will take place on September 21 at 5:30 p.m. for the first time with the ULB and in Charleroi.
