Pharmacists, nurses and midwives are now authorized to prescribe all the vaccines provided for in the vaccination schedule. A decree was published this Wednesday in the Official Journal.
A time saver for many. A decree published last Wednesday in the Official Journal authorizes pharmacists to prescribe vaccines themselves. A pharmacist will now be able to inject and prescribe all the vaccines provided for in the vaccination schedule for patients over 11 years of age, with the exception of yellow fever.
Until now, they had the authorization to vaccinate once morest the flu or tetanus, for example. Nurses, medical biology laboratory workers and midwives are also affected by this expansion of skills, according to the decree. Satisfaction for pharmacists, who believe that it is a form of recognition.

The additional function is the possibility of prescribing vaccines. This facilitates the journeys of patients who will not need to go to the doctor to obtain a prescription to be vaccinated at the pharmacy. Vaccination was already possible for Covid and flu. In November we had other vaccines and there we have the possibility of prescribing. For me, it’s recognition, it reinforces the role of the pharmacist. This will also increase the vaccination coverage of the population

A few exceptions remain: live attenuated vaccines, such as that once morest measles for example, for immunocompromised people, and vaccines for travel. Pharmacists, nurses and midwives will have to undergo training before being authorized to prescribe.
Patients will have nothing to pay since this vaccination will be supported under the third-party payment system.
