Exorbitant increase in food prices in Cuba: eggs, rice, meat.

Inflation is not giving way to the average Cuban’s pocket. There is an exorbitant increase in the price of food in Cuba, such as rice, eggs and meat.

This week, for example, a Facebook user denounced the price of a carton of eggs on the island, which has reached up to 6 thousand pesos in some Cuban provinces.

“Almost the same salary as a doctor in my province. Take all the time you need to find a way to blame Ellon. And there are already places where it is 6000,” said the user.

Another user added: “When you say almost, it is because the doctor’s salary is 4800 and it is obviously almost a carton of eggs.”

The price of eggs in Cuba has reached alarming levels, exceeding 5,000 pesos per carton on the informal market, in the midst of the serious food crisis facing the country and the island’s government, despite slowing the increase in the price of some products in MSMEs, has only managed to make some products disappear.

Prices in Cuba: increase and shortage

What is the price of food in Cuba, amid the rising cost of living and shortages? According to this complaint made through the Facebook profile of Edmundo Dantés Junior, the cost of a carton of eggs (30 units) is equivalent to “almost a doctor’s salary in my province.”

This increase in the price of eggs is a clear reflection of the uncontrolled inflation affecting the Cuban economy, where basic products have become unattainable for most families.

According to an analysis by the media outlet 14ymedio, it is not the only food whose price continues to rise in Cuba, in state markets, SMEs, etc. Chicken is reportedly at 312 pesos per pound, and a 10-pound package of chicken is at 3,600 pesos in Havana.

Meanwhile, online buying and selling sites indicate that a 5-pound package of pork chops would cost 8,000 Cuban pesos.
