The Theater Practice and Speech Laboratory of the Department of Theater Studies of the University of Patras is co-organizing with the Region of Western Greece and the Archaeological Museum of Patras, the visual exhibition of the sculptor Manos Pontikakis entitled “Hypocrites. Faces and voices.”
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday, April 3 at 6.30 pm. in the periodical exhibition hall of the Archaeological Museum of Patras. The exhibition will last until April 30, 2024, with free entry and aims to involve the public in a scientific, artistic and educational experience that connects the Ancient Greek Theater with the Modern Greek Culture of our country, in a cultural reference space.
The purpose of the exhibition is twofold: artistic and educational. It presents theatrical masks – sculptures, inspired by the tradition of ancient Greek tragedy combined with speech, movement, music and with an educational dimension. The educational dimension of the exhibition, in co-organization with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaia, concerns visits to schools (high schools and high schools that teach ancient drama). The aim is the experiential approach, through the exhibits/sculptures as well as texts that are in dialogue with the forms of the masks in order to encourage the empathic and expressive skills of the students. The exhibition is addressed to schools, the university community and in general to the citizens of the Region, whom it invites to visit it.
On the day of the opening, and before the tour of the exhibition space, there will be a discussion in the museum’s lecture hall on the topic of costumes, by the professors/actors of the Department of Theater Studies as well as invited speakers from universities abroad and the artists/actors. The visit to the exhibits is framed by the choreography of Tatiana Loverdou to original music by Dimitrios Gouzios and texts by Gianna Roilou.
