A couple from California, who own several laundries, can no longer see their businesses being robbed in the greater San Francisco area.
In the last six months, laundry rooms have been broken into 12 times, as Derek Thoms points out in a daily interview Inside Edition.
The ordeal began for him and his family in January, when a truck hit the front of their laundry room to be able to steal the money present in the ATM at the entrance.

Despite CCTV evidence provided to police, he says nothing positive came of it.
“Before, this kind of crime occurred around 2 a.m. In my case, the thieves did it at 7am. In one week, they stole up to $5,000 from me and caused $11,000 in ATM damage,” he said.
For more than a generation, Derek Thoms and his family owned a number of laundromats in California. However, his laundromats were burglarized 12 times in the last six months. Within a week, thieves stole $5,000 in quarters and destroyed an $11,000 change machine. pic.twitter.com/82es5zPTeJ

Several similar crimes occurred in the weeks following the first incident.
The American entrepreneur says the crime that angered him the most was when they tried to steal his truck parked outside his home.
He says that it was thanks to his dog that the thieves fled.

Finally, this California family decided to pack up and settle thousands of miles away in Alabama.
The couple had to close all their branches before the move, which was difficult.
“It was a very difficult decision, but it was the right choice,” says Derek’s wife, Skylar.
The family plans to open new laundries in Alabama, while they wait for their old premises in California to be sold.
