By Rania Amer Thursday, June 29, 2023 10:00 AM A new study warns that Exercise It may lead to a stroke in those with blocked arteries, although exercise is vital to ensuring good blood flow, but it may pose a danger to people with blockages. According to the British Express website.

Exercising is an important part of maintaining your health, even if it is a low-intensity exercise such as walking. In addition to lifestyle changes such as following a healthy diet and quitting smoking, all of this maintains the health conditions of the individual, and despite that, exercising on a daily basis for patients with clogged arteries increases the risk of strokes.

A team from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur found that an increased heart rate can trigger a stroke in patients with severe blockages in the carotid arteries – the arteries that supply blood to the brain.

For healthy patients and those with minor blockages in the arteries, exercise is still beneficial for maintaining healthy blood flow, but for patients who already have narrowing, it may not be as beneficial.

They compared the effect of an exercise-induced heart rate of 140 beats per minute and a resting heart rate of 67 and 100 beats per minute.

As expected, for healthy and moderate subjects, the exercise condition improved the health of the simulated carotid artery.

In the same context, study author Dr. Somnath Roy said that intense exercise showed negative effects on patients with moderate or higher stenosis. It significantly increases shear stress in the area of the stenosis, which may lead to rupture of the stenosis, indicating that a higher heart rate can also increase the likelihood of another stenosis.

Many factors contribute to stenosis and stroke risk, including age, lifestyle and genetics, but they recommend regular arterial health checks for people who do intense exercise. Doctors also recommend a carefully defined exercise regimen for people with moderate to severe stenosis or a history of stroke.
