Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Executive Branch updated the composition of the Social Cabinet, incorporating the Paraguayan Sanitation Services Company (Essap) and the Sanitation Services Regulatory Entity (Erssan), seeking to strengthen attention to drinking water and sanitation needs in vulnerable communities prioritized by the Government.
Decree 2398, which incorporates these institutions into the Social Cabinet, mentions that “it is necessary to achieve greater synergy between policies for access to basic and essential services, such as access to water and sanitation for the general population, recognized as a fundamental human right that impacts the quality of life and health of the population.”
He added that both incorporated bodies, in accordance with their mandate and competence, are key to coordinating and achieving sustainable social development objectives.
«Thus, the updating of the members of the Social Cabinet responds to the need to achieve the formal incorporation of both organizations, whose participation is extremely important to achieve the goals proposed by the National Government within the framework of the Social Protection System of Paraguay, implemented through the National Plan for Poverty Reduction «Ñaime Poravéta».
The Social Cabinet, headed by the Ministry of Social Development, has been focusing its work on reducing poverty in 22 districts identified with the highest rates of social vulnerability.
To this end, social protection tables have been set up in the identified localities, through which needs and mechanisms for solving them are identified.
The Social Protection Roundtables are a space for inter-institutional coordination to carry out specific actions aimed at improving the quality of life in the selected territories, under three fundamental pillars that include social integration, labour and productive insertion and social security.
Essap’s mission is to provide drinking water and sewage services in a sustainable manner, while Erssan is the institution responsible for regulating the provision of drinking water, sewage and sewage effluent treatment services.
