Executive Benefits in the Quebec Health Network: Six Weeks of Vacation for Top Executives

The boss of the new agency which will oversee the health network will be able to benefit from six weeks of vacation per year, unlike senior officials and CEOs of other state companies.

The Legault government does not skimp on attractive working conditions to find the top gun who will lead Santé Québec.

In addition to pocketing $652,050 for his first two years of work, the boss of the new state-owned company will benefit from 30 days of paid vacation annually.

For comparison, the number one civil servant (general secretary), deputy ministers and other senior managers of a government agency or enterprise must be satisfied with 25 working days of vacation.

The future president and CEO of Santé Québec will therefore have more vacation time than the boss of Hydro-Québec, Michael Sabia.

Same thing for the CEOs of integrated health and social services centers (CISSS) and hospitals, who are capped at five weeks of vacation per year.

Like health executives

The next boss of this new public health organization will not, however, be the only one to benefit from this competitive advantage. At the Secrétariat aux emploi supérieur, we drew inspiration from what is already offered to other managers in this sector.

“The working conditions relating to the vacations of the president and CEO of Santé Québec are consistent with the working conditions of executives in the health network, who provide six weeks of vacation per year,” it is specified.

Remember that he will also be entitled to a car allowance of $610 per month and an allowance of $1,573 for accommodation outside his home for work.

In the call for applications published last week, Quebec emphasizes that the candidate must “hold a graduate university degree in a relevant field”, in addition to having at least 15 years of management experience, including five years at the head of a large organization.

Santé Québec, which was created as part of Minister Christian Dubé’s vast reform, will become the network’s sole employer and will take charge of daily operations.
