Jazz guitar legend Al Di Meola is actually making a guest appearance next Sunday (July 16) in the renovated Cselley mill in Oslip, Burgenland. After that, just eight more summer concerts are planned in Europe before the soon to be 69-year-old retires to his summer residence in Capri – and cooks and makes music for his concert guests. Such an exclusive dinner by and with Al costs a mere 8,500 euros – it’s much cheaper in the “Mü” including catering.
Al Di Meola – American with parents from Campania, Italy – is considered one of the most excellent jazz guitarists of the past decades. He was extremely successful solo and has received countless awards – in the early 1970s he was also considered the “fastest guitarist in the world”; which, however, was spectacularly “attacked” at the absolute high point of his career: the cooperation with Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin on a Friday night in San Francisco, from which the legendary album “Friday Night in San Francisco” emerged. It includes the cult piece “Mediterranean Sundance”, in which Di Meola and the flamenco “god” de Lucia “duel” together with McLaughlin for eleven and a half minutes.
On August 4th, 8th and 9th things will certainly be more comfortable in the spacious residence of Al Di Meola on Capri: Aperitifs and hors d’oeuvres are popular on the sun terrace with sea views, followed by a three-course menu, the “Chef” Albert Laurence Di Meola personally prepares, usually with plenty of fish, seafood and other local specialties. The master then plays his guitar just as personally and tells stories from his life in an intimate setting, above all regarding his encounters with greats such as Luciano Pavarotti, Paul Simon, Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin and Phil Collins.
