Interview with the President of Sochi.
On Saturday, April 29, a solemn presentation of the hockey team “Russia 25” took place in Novogorsk. It was attended and Boris Rothenberg – father of the head coach of the national team Roman Rotenberg. “SE” talked with the President “Sochi” regarding the upcoming tour of “Russia 25”, the departure of Berdyev from his football club and problems with refereeing in the RPL.

– I have an excellent relationship with Kurban Bekievich. I know him as a great coach and person. He is conscientious and honest. When Berdyev came, we agreed that we would move forward, that he would only add. It turned out that in four months of his work, I saw that they started playing from defense, the ball did not go. Before that, we were one of the best teams in possession of the ball in the league. It is clear that he was rebuilding football. But it turned out that this is not our style. Not what I would like to see. Even Garanin staged beautiful football, they simply did not realize some moments and he did not have enough authority within the team for the team to fight for him.
– In all the teams where Kurban Bekievich worked, the football of the team was not so spectacular, but in the long run it gave results …
We need spectacular football! People come to watch the game. Football is a show! In addition to the result, there should be a game, movement, rebuilding. We need to give young people more opportunities. If they are not released, they will wither.

– When you invited him, did you think that you need to give him some time and that he has more football than defense?
– Times change. And football is changing. Kurban Bekievich sees this, we talked to him. He himself understood this. They agreed that he might not be rebuilt.

– We worked together with Dima Khokhlov for a long time back at Dynamo. He once won the youth championship. I know how it works. He has a perspective. Now there are several rounds, let’s see if the team will be rebuilt or not.
– If the team with Khokhlov shows a good result, will he stay?
Everything depends on the picture. How the team will play. With the same Akhmat, the match might have turned out differently. We were not credited with a goal when there was no offside. And in the end, the opponent scored a controversial goal following a violation. I never want to blame judges. You have to be stronger in the head. When goals are scored cleanly, it is impossible not to count them. But there are times when there was no offside, but the goal was not counted.

– You say that you don’t want to blame the judges, but this season the refereeing is at a very low level. What to do with it?
They need to be better prepared. It seems that salaries have been raised, everything is being done for them. Leaders of the judges are trying. But perhaps that is our mentality.
– Do you need a foreigner in such a situation as a leader?
– We need an independent incorruptible person. Even if you raise your salary, they are still somewhere … Although I haven’t caught anyone by the hand and I’m not going to do it, but the refereeing itself shows everything. For the same mistakes they are suspended – some for six matches, some for two. Then they come back, and once more the same thing. It needs a strong person to lead the way.
– The general director of “Wings” Andreev resigned in protest once morest refereeing. Is this a strong move?
— And what will it give? I think he showed his weakness. It can be assessed in different ways.

– Why talk to arbitrators? They have rules by which they must judge and not make mistakes. We introduced the VAR system: here the system works this way, here it works differently. They see on the replays that in the match with Akhmat we didn’t have a side game. But the camera was set a little differently, and already it seems different.
Why is this system needed then?
– There are many bugs that are not visible in the game. It all depends on who is sitting at the monitor.

– This week there was a meeting of the RPL. They wrote that the league can nominate you to the executive committee of the RFU. How true is this?
– An application has been submitted. This is in agreement with me.
– Are you going to represent the interests of the RPL in the executive committee?
— Yes.
When do you expect a decision?
– Don’t know. Application submitted. The idea should be decided at the next meeting.
– Christian Noboa said that he applied for Russian citizenship. Is it so? Last time you said that you think he will stay at Sochi following his career is over.
He didn’t agree with me. This is his decision, which I learned regarding from the press. I’m happy with it. He is a charismatic guy who can give a lot to the team in terms of football. Chris understands a lot. Football culture is at its highest level. Sometimes it just gets tired. Age (laughs).
– Did you call Noboa to congratulate him personally when you saw the news regarding obtaining Russian citizenship?
– Didn’t talk to him. Literally found out the other day, didn’t have time to talk to him.
It’s not beer that kills football. Will common sense prevail?
– On Wednesday there was a meeting of the State Duma on the possible return of beer to the stadiums. What is your position?
— Beer is sold everywhere at stadiums. But there must be culture. If a person drinks a little beer, nothing bad will happen. But if people get drunk… It’s a twofold question. Beer should be given a trial period, see how it will work, how it will affect the profits of the clubs. Now we have entered Fan ID. If they allow the sale of beer, everyone will run to arrange it (laughs). I think that this will increase the number of people who have issued a Fan ID.
– Will it be profitable for Sochi?
It is not yet clear how this will work. But I think the introduction of beer will help increase attendance.

– A number of Sochi players’ contracts expire at the end of the season: Joauzinho, Dzhanaev, Terekhov, Yusupov. What is the club’s vision for their future?
We still have games left this season. Will watch. In fact, the team needs to be rejuvenated. The season showed it. Some players do not give the result they should.
— There is no goal to renew the contract with them?
– We’re still watching. There are still games, players have a chance to show their character. If a player begins to feel sorry for himself, then the club does not really need him. He does not see his future here, but is looking for where to earn more money.

— In fact, I really liked the team. You look at the guys – your eyes are burning! They are ready to defend the colors of our country. It is clear that they also have a political background. They will only go forward, knowing that Russia must be the first. This is the most basic task. No one sticks out himself, but each one for the other. This is immediately visible.
– Today we talked regarding the possibility of the football team adopting the format of the hockey team. What do you think regarding it?
– For this we create our academies to raise our players. To have fewer legionnaires. Although strong foreigners are needed, of course, as an example for ours. But you need to raise your own! From the point of view of patriotism and victories of the national team, this is important. We need physical and tactical training. I saw that the coaching staff, which was selected in the Russian team, corresponds to the tasks.
– What do you see as the goal of the Russian team in the upcoming tournament: the result or preparation for a possible return to the international arena?
– The result is always important. These are emotions. This is the Russian team – it must win and show beautiful hockey. To see the growth of the team. And the result always comes first. Roman correctly said that there should be reinforced concrete in defense and dominance in attack. Football is now developing according to the same principles. No one is trying not to put “buses”. Pressing. We attack together, we defend together.
