Brigitte Bardot spoke to Darius Rochebin on LCI this Thursday during an exclusive interview. She notably returned to her request to the Danish authorities to release environmental activist Paul Watson.
Brigitte Bardot, actress and animal rights activist, has launched an appeal to Denmark, through an open letter, published this Thursday, August 8, to release Paul Watson, arrested in Greenland, more than two weeks ago. The man who devotes his life to defending whales risks extradition to Japan because he and his crew put themselves between Japanese harpoons and cetaceans during a hunt. Thursday evening, the actress was the guest of Darius Rochebin on LCI, to react to this situation.
“He took incredible risks”
“He is an extraordinary guy, a hero who spent his life defending whales against the Japanese harpoons that kill them.”developed Brigitte Bardot. “He took incredible risks. He saved 7,000 whales in his life. It’s amazing.”. For her, “If he is extradited to Japan, he is dead”. “It’s not Paul who is breaking the law, it’s Norway, Japan and Iceland who are not stopping their massacres”she added.
The animal welfare advocate wants a reaction from Emmanuel Macron on this issue. “I hope he will send Stéphane Séjourné (the resigning Minister of Foreign Affairs, editor’s note) to defend Paul. We can’t let him go to Japan. This is a terrible miscarriage of justice and it makes me sick.”she continued with emotion. “He has to save Paul Watson, it’s not just words and handshakes, it really takes someone powerful.”
The actress also recalled her meeting with the President in 2018, to talk to him about animals: “I explained to him for an hour but he did nothing. Since then, I have been very angry.”.
