Exclusion of Luxemburg & Brabant: bpost’s Saint Nicholas Operation Sparks Outrage

In this screenshot, we can see a table, produced by our editorial team, listing the different locations where the operation will stop. And, (bad) surprise, nothing is planned in the province of Luxembourg! Which had the gift of annoying a good portion of Internet users. “It disgusts me… We are just good at paying taxes!”, we might read in particular. “We don’t exist, Belgium stops at Namur. It’s getting worse and worse in all areas,” wrote another reader, furious.

“We favored very busy areas”

Faced with this affront, we contacted bpost to ask for some explanations. And, first surprise, the province of Luxembourg is not the only one in this case. All provinces of the country will host the operation, except Walloon Brabant and… the province of Luxembourg. “We understand the little pang in the hearts of the children of Luxembourg and Walloon Brabant,” explains Laura Cerrada Crespo, bpost spokesperson. This is the first year that the Saintnicolis has crisscrossed Belgium. Unfortunately, bpost was unable to be everywhere this year, due to lack of availability of locations and incompatibility of the agenda of Saint Nicholas and his assistants on the desired dates. We had to make choices and we favored very busy areas, such as train stations and shopping centers in large cities, in order to reach as many children as possible… Saint Nicolas does not forget anyone, his secretariat is open: he will respond to all letters sent Rue du Paradis 1 to 0612 Ciel. We take the children’s request to heart and bpost will discuss, with the great saint, the opportunities for next year,” she explains.

Children from Luxembourg and Brabant will unfortunately have to make do with the good old post office box this year. It remains to be seen whether bpost will really correct the situation for next year…
