The Banque de France unveils this Monday morning its annual report of the Observatory of Banking Inclusion for the year 2022. For the occasion, Europe 1 was able to exclusively read the first conclusions of the institution. If over-indebtedness is declining in France, the number of customers in a situation of financial fragility is increasing.

The Banque de France is presenting its 2022 annual report from the Banking Inclusion Observatory on Monday morning. In this major report, it will be a question of the right to an account, caps on costs, but also micro-credits. Exclusively, Europe 1 was able to look at the first data from the barometer. Among the trends observed, the number of French people in a situation of over-indebtedness is decreasing.

More and more fragile customers

Nearly 113,000 files were filed last year, according to the Banque de France, down 7% over five years. Over 5 years, this even represents a drop of almost 40%. According to the institution, this is the result in particular of the improvement of the economic situation in recent years, and better supervision of the distribution of consumer credit.

On the other hand, one indicator is on the rise: that of the number of customers in a situation of financial fragility. They were nearly 4.1 million at the end of December, underlines the organization. A figure which, even if it remained stable last year, has increased by 14% over five years.

Increasingly popular micro-loans

For the Banque de France, the main explanation is better detection, in recent years, of fragile customers. Another trend observed last year, according to information from Europe 1: now, outstanding micro-credits have almost reached the 2 billion euro mark, including a significant part for professional projects. No warning therefore for the Banque de France: this indicator would rather tend to show the dynamism of the economy.
