“The DSV rules here!” Recently defeated, Leoben shone in the second round of the ÖFB Cup and that thrilled the fans in the Donawitz stadium. The Upper Styrians celebrated their first win under Rene Poms once morest Bundesliga club Wattens and it was absolutely not undeserved. After 22 minutes, the Donawitzers were 2-0 ahead. Winfred Amoah had barely touched the ground in the penalty area when the referee pointed to the spot. Penalty for Leoben and Kevin Friesenbichler took responsibility. He sent Wattens keeper Benjamin Ozegovic into the left corner and pushed the ball dry into the other to make it 1-0.
Shortly followingwards it was 2-0. The attack seemed to be over, but the ball came back into the penalty area. Deni Alar (22nd) was there with his head. A goal from the approaching opponent was disallowed for offside. The guests tried harder offensively, but the break and a bad pass in midfield played into the home team’s hands. A cross from the right came halfway into the penalty area and Alar finished flying – 3-0 following 48 minutes. But the WSG didn’t give up and substitute Prelec (53′) shortened the score. The DSV was not particularly impressed and played forward. In the 65th minute Alar had a great chance to make it 4-1. Facing the impending end, Wattens made the end hectic, but Leben didn’t lose his composure. Who should come now? “I don’t care…” says Stankovic, “…but a storm wouldn’t be bad.”
GAK victorious
Coach Gernot Messner changed the system in the 2-1 win over league rivals Stripfing due to several failures and also due to rotation and had a defensive five-man chain played. With the starting eleven debutants Yannick Oberleitner, Martin Murg, Atsushi Zaizen and Jan Stefanon as well as Felix Holzhacker and Levan Eloshvili, who haven’t had much playing time this season, there was a completely rebuilt GAK eleven on the pitch, and this was also noticeable. But the GAK was once once more able to rely on its strength in standards in front of 1,632 spectators. In the eleventh minute the ball rolled over the guests’ goal line for the first time following an Eloshvili corner and shortly before the half-time whistle the GAK presented itself strongly from the corner flag.
First, Stripfing goalkeeper Kilian Kretschmer was able to fend off a Zaizen header and Markus Rusek’s follow-up shot, but at the following corner from standard shooter Eloshvili he was powerless to deal with a header from captain Milos Jovicic (45th). Stefan Rakowitz, who was substituted at half-time, only managed to score the next goal with the help of the inside bar (48′), and as a result GAK missed many chances to make the decision. “Despite the many changes, the first half can be seen as positive, I didn’t like the second half because we were too hectic,” summed up sports director Dieter Elsneg. “In the end we got promoted, that’s what counts.”
Kapfenberg also continues
Kapfenberg started once morest Lafnitz with a 37-minute power outage, but then found his way into the game well and deservedly took the lead: Artur Murza took advantage of the disorder in the defense and lofted the ball into the empty goal from 25 meters. It was the only goal of the evening, although Lafnitz became dangerous several times immediately following conceding and Kapfenberg came close to making it 2-0 several times from minute 53 onwards. The WAC won at SV Ried 2-1, Lustenau beat Vienna 3-2.
