In the Netflix series, which has passionate fans, the Swedish crown prince falls in love with his classmate. The series ends following the third season, for which an at least approximate start date has now been revealed.
The “Young Royals” fans waited impatiently this year – and so far in vain. The final third season of the teen series was filmed in the spring, but nothing came of the hoped-for release this year. On Friday, the Netflix Nordic Instagram account, which has been trolled a lot by fans, finally had good news for its followers: The “Young Royals” are returning in March 2024. However, they have not yet revealed an exact date. However, it is announced that there will be scenes with tears, screaming, and some in which someone vomits. And of course – we already know this from seasons one and two – lots of intense looks.
The focus of “Young Royals” is the Swedish Prince Wilhelm (Edvin Ryding), who is sent to the fictional elite boarding school Hillerska following a fight. There he meets and falls in love with Simon (Omar Rudberg), a working-class scholarship student. When a cell phone video of the two of them in an intimate situation goes viral, the situation becomes complicated for more than just the two of them.
The teen series became a surprise success for the streaming service in 2021 – and not just in the gay community. There is a real hype regarding “Young Royals” on social media. On the website Tumblr, for example, every single episode is analyzed extensively. And the series is well-watched: in the list of the most streamed series and films recently published by Netflix, it can be found in the first third.
Author always wanted three seasons
The fact that “Young Royals” will still end following season three may be due to Netflix’s tighter financial constraints for series productions. But it is also in the spirit of the creator of the series: lead author Lisa Ambjörn always emphasizes that she wanted to tell Wilhelm and Simon’s story in three seasons from the beginning. (here)
