Excessive Pension Cases at National Bank Retirees: Findings and Solutions

Today, thirteen cases of excess have been identified among retirees of the National Bank. “Around mid-May, we were informed by the Federal Pensions Service of the review of the files of thirteen pensioners from the Bank,” confirms Geert Sciot, spokesperson for the BNB, in Le Soir.

By combining different components constituting his pension, a former vice-governor received, for example, nearly 11,500 euros gross per month of pension, where the ceiling is today set at 9,376.10 euros. That is more than 2,000 euros in addition to the authorized limit.

The Governor of the National Bank reassures regarding the health of Belgian banks: “No risk of contagion or risk of instability”

It will apparently not be possible for the SFP to obtain reimbursement of any undue sums already paid, as the beneficiary cannot be held responsible for the overpayment. How were public services able to miss such excesses? The administration simply did not have access to ad-hoc information, explains Sarah Scaillet, general administrator of the SFP, in L’Echo.

The SFP is not able to quantify the problem which might potentially appear in around a hundred organizations.
