Concert event, this Friday evening at the Triskell in Pont l’Abbé with the exceptional appearance of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, a real star in the United States. This combo, built on the traditional foundations of the Brass Band, is made up of seven brass instruments, all sons of Phil Cohran, trumpeter of the Sun Ra Arkestra, and supported by a guitar and a bass. This sibling from Chicago and brought up with the grain of madness of the most unbridled jazz brings an original breath to the music and groove of the New Orleans bands.
Their composite music combines jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop, rhythm’n blues, song, New Orleans brass band, and sometimes even flirts with house or soca. This gives a powerful groove and funk sound. Since the release of their first album “Flipside” in 2004, they have toured with the most talented artists on the planet: Prince, Gorillaz, Tony Allen, Mos Def, and singer Macy Gray. Their song, “War,” was featured in the hit movie Hunger Games.
