Excelsior plays a strong and dominant first half, with most of the chances going to the home team. Excelsior was the dominant party, especially in the first fifteen minutes. The first chance comes early when Ellouzi breaks through the defense, but is flagged for offside. Due to the defensive work of Groenewegen, Mollink and Van Goch, Excelsior has good control of the defense.
