Excalibur City Transforms into Family City: A New Chapter in Shopping and Entertainment

After an intensive process of change, the well-known “Excalibur City” becomes a “Family City”. The shopping and excursion destination right following the Kleinhaugsdorf border crossing in the Czech Republic with more than a hundred different shops has a new look. The presentation by senior partner Ronnie Seunig and his son Roger as managing director took place in the cinema hall of the “Terra Technica” museum as part of a press conference.

It all started three decades ago…

“The repositioning involves an investment of around 3.5 million euros. With our Merlins Children’s World, Merlins Farm and the Museum World, we are increasingly turning to families with children,” stated Roger Seunig and said: “Anyone who sets out on new paths faces a big challenge at the beginning, as it was three decades ago Self-made millionaire Ronnie Seunig opened the first duty-free shop next to Kleinhaugsdorf.”

The rest is history. “The Excalibur City is and remains a success story. We are trying to develop ourselves further and are therefore opening a new chapter in the company’s history with Family City. Only the established Excalibur Free & E-Shop will continue to exist under the same name,” emphasized the managing director.

The founding entrepreneur is also convinced of the new business idea: “It is my wish to hand over management to my 40-year-old son. The new city will establish itself in the next few years,” predicted Ronnie Seunig. In addition to an architectural redesign of the building facades, the quality of the amusement park will be upgraded step by step – but a touch of a kitschy fairytale world should always remain.

“Our expansion plans are progressing quickly,” said Seunig, 60, who lives in Australia. As a surprise on the open stage, museum curator Günter Freinberger presented the jubilee with a Wurlitzer “Side Man” from 1959 – the first drum device in the USA. “There are only a few copies left in the whole world,” emphasized Freinberger.

Dino park and swimming pond planned

The expansion plans include the creation of campsites and additional nature trails in the area of the farm. After the opening of a Lego store, a large swimming pond is being planned. “We are currently creating a well for water supply so that we do not waste drinking water. A particular highlight will be a new dinosaur park, which will become the main attraction in the future,” said Roger Seunig.

This was followed by a birthday party under the motto “100 Years of the Seunig Family”. “On the occasion of my 60th birthday, it is time to finally hand over the reins to my son, who is celebrating his 40th,” said Ronnie Seunig. The celebration was attended by around 200 guests, including former Justice Minister Wolfgang Brandstetter, actor Albert Fortell and manager Sonja Klima.

numbers and facts

The Family City area covers more than 530,000 square meters and employs around 400 people. Entry to the indoor and outdoor areas is free. There is a go-cart course, the “Terra Technica” museum and a jukebox hotel on site.

Merlin’s farm is home to alpacas, mini donkeys, pigs, chickens, sheep and goats. The eggs from the 500 free-range chickens are available for sale to visitors. The local catering industry is supplied with vegetable cultivation.
