Examining Border Security and Smuggling Issues: Insights from the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee

The Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee discussed the issue of the field visit regarding two weeks ago, in coordination with the army, to the northern border areas.

The head of the committee, Representative Fadi Alama, stated, “We were informed of the suffering in the region, the problem of illegal crossing, and the role of smugglers. There is a slowness in dealing with the issue, and we will submit a paper to the Ministry of Justice explaining the nature of the problems,” calling for “tightening penalties on smugglers,” noting that no “Data” displaced Syrians to date, and “we hope to be with General Security next week.”

In addition, he explained, “We understood that the meeting of the caretaker Foreign Minister, Abdullah Bouhabib, with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Al-Miqdad, will take place following his return from America, and we have confirmed that the meeting will take place.”

The committee touched on what happened in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, where the committee called on the international community to work to return the displaced Armenians.
