No more need to go to your doctor for a little flu: you will soon be able to carry out a health check-up yourself from the comfort of your home.
The Withings company presents at CES 2014, the show which has become a showcase for global technological innovation, BeamO, a brand new health check-up tool, which might well revolutionize remote consultations or the management of simple colds.
A multiscope. This is the name given by the French brand to this new health check-up tool. It has four features. First of all, a contactless thermometer, which can measure body temperature by pointing it at the forehead.
Next, a medical grade electrocardiogram (ECG), which detects irregularities in your heartbeat, simply by placing your two index fingers on sensors. Similarly, an oximeter measures the oxygen level in your blood.
Finally, it is equipped with a digital stethoscope, which can listen to your heart and lungs, by placing it on your rib cage, just below your chest.
Three very simple steps to do a check-up yourself.
This check-up of the temperature, heart, and respiratory system can be carried out in less than a minute and thus provide a quick and effective health check, which will then be sent to the application developed by Withings. The data can also be sent to your doctor, facilitating remote monitoring and introducing the possibility of increased teleconsultations.
Up to eight people can use the same BeamO, which might prove useful for pooling the cost of the object (€249.95), significantly more expensive than a traditional thermometer. It is not certain that all households can afford to purchase this tool if it is not covered by health insurance.
It should be available for sale from summer 2024, but Withings is still waiting for European CE marking and approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
