Yésica Frías, ex-wife of Argentine player Exequiel Palacios, made headlines in the media in her native country when it was announced that She auctioned off her now ex-partner’s world champion medal so he might finish paying off a debt.
However, She went on to clarify the situation regarding the medal in the face of the wave of indignation that arose in Argentina, since many criticized him for selling a souvenir “as valuable” as the metal that consecrated him as world champion.
Frías declared for the news channel TN that she never said she would auction the medal, but, “That he would do what was necessary to pay the debt“.
Argentina indicated that what sold was a shirt signed by the player and a replica of the medal which was given to her by Palacios, clarifying that the original is in the possession of its owner.
“I wasn’t going to auction off his things, because he has his things. I have things that he gave me”he added. Frías argues that the sale of these things is to pay for an apartment that he acquired when he was a couple with Palacios, but as a result of their separation he is no longer responsible for said payment.
“Since I want to finish paying for the apartment and I don’t want to have a souvenir, I sold it, I think it’s not bad“, he said.
“How am I going to sell a medal? First, it is a medal that belongs to him because he won it. At no time did I say that I was going to sell the medal“, he said, but he did admit that he sold a replica.
The news of the alleged auction of the medal quickly went viral and she said that she had to clarify the issue before it might escalate to a greater extent.
Frías also used his social networks to publicize the situation. On his Instagram account he published a photograph with a man, who was the buyer of the signed shirt and the replica of the medal.
“The buyer of the first shirt, one less fee“, was what he expressed in the publication and said that “I will sell what is necessary“.
