Former Dutch Queen Beatrix (85) broke her wrist while skiing in Lech am Arlberg.
The court announced on Monday that she had been operated on and is now back at Drakensteyn Castle near Utrecht. She’s fine. Beatrix is a passionate skier. The Oranje family has been going on skiing holidays to Lech for decades. According to the court, the accident happened on Friday.

Prince Friso’s avalanche accident
Exactly eleven years earlier, on February 17, 2012, there was a devastating accident when Beatrix’s second eldest son, Johan Friso, was buried by an avalanche. The prince was in a coma for more than a year. He died in August 2013 at the age of 44.
From queen to princess once more
Beatrix was Queen of the Netherlands from 1980 to 2013, and since her abdication in April 2013 she has once once more held the title of Princess. She passed the crown on to her eldest son Willem-Alexander.
