Ex-pro player revived during warm-up after heart attack

The presence of rescuers and their intervention undoubtedly saved the life of Christophe André, a rugby of Céret, in the Eastern Pyrenees. He was warming up before the meeting Federal 1 in Grasse, when he collapsed on the ground. He immediately took charge of a volunteer firefighter and first-aiders who were members of the Grassewhere this meeting was to take place.

Aged 36, Christophe André is a former professional player who played most of his career in Pro D2 in Tarbes, Bourgoin-Jallieu, Perpignan and Provence rugby. The third row also played twenty Top 14 games during his two seasons at Oyonnax, between 2013 and 2015. He ended his professional career in 2020.

After long cardiac massages and the intervention of the fire brigade, called to the scene, he was resuscitated and transported to the hospital in Cannes where his condition was stable in the evening. Given the emotion caused by this incident, among the players of both teams in particular, the decision was made to postpone the meeting.

The Céret club has also requested the postponement of its match scheduled for this weekend in Issoire. The Auvergne club has given its agreement. The French rugby federation should validate this decision quickly.
