Police officers from the Orestiada and Alexandroupoli Police Departments proceeded yesterday (16/08) in areas of Evros to arrest three foreign smugglers, who on as many different occasions attempted to bring a total of 67 illegal immigrants into the country.
In the first case, in the morning on the Ormeniou-Ardaniou National Road, police officers of the Didymoteichos Border Guard Department of the Orestiada Police Department arrested a smuggler, as they spotted him driving a privately used truck (trailer after trailer) and illegally transporting inside the country 31 illegal immigrants.
In addition, on two more separate occasions, at noon, two traffickers driving two D.X.F. vehicles (trailers after the trailers), went to the Evros Gardens Border Crossing Point, in order to enter the country.
In a thorough check carried out by the officers of the Passport Control Department of the Alexandroupolis Police Department with the help of a heartbeat detection machine and the assistance of customs officials, they found that the perpetrators had hidden in the trailers of the vehicles, in the first case 19 illegal immigrants and in the second 17.
