Alongside the coronavirus, the world has been facing for some time the evolution of monkey pox, also called monkeypox. In a dynamic of anticipation, the Ministry of Health has put the national monitoring system on high alert.
Benin is not immune to the evolution of monkey pox, also called monkeypox, which is rampant throughout the world. In correspondence dated Thursday, June 2, 2022 addressed to all departmental directors of health, the chief of staff of the Minister of Health, put all health centers on maximum alert.
In said correspondence, the authorities in charge of public health invite health workers at all levels to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and to immediately notify any suspected cases in accordance with case definitions.
The Ministry of Health of Benin values the strict observance of this prescription and urges the departmental directors of health to respect these prescriptions to which it will attach value.
Note that monkeypox is an emerging infectious disease. this disease is caused by a virus transmitted by infected animals, most often by rodents.
Monkeypox, once transmitted to humans by a rodent, can then spread from person to person. Generally, the case fatality rate in monkeypox outbreaks is 1-10%, but with proper care, most patients recover.
