Everything you need to know about the new PlayStation Stars program

Sony is launching a new loyalty program for the PlayStation.

After PlayStation Plus, paid, here is PlayStation Stars, free. This new program promises virtual items and points that players can convert into games. According to Sony’s press release, failing to offer a subscription, this would be a way to reward players.

“Today, I am delighted to introduce PlayStation Stars, a brand new loyalty program in honor of gamers, to thank them for starting this ever-evolving video game journey with us” writes Grace Chen, vice president of PlayStation Network, in a ticket de blog.

Easy to earn points

Enrollment in the PlayStation Stars program is not automatic. To take advantage of it, you will first have to register manually. Then, it will be possible to earn points by doing activities and by completing missions offered by the Japanese giant. Little more, Sony promises the unlocking of a monthly reward each time a player launches a game. “To get the ‘Monthly Check-In’ campaign reward, you just need to play any game”explains the post.

He adds “in other campaigns, you’ll have to win tournaments, win specific trophies, or even be the first player in your time zone to get the platinum trophy for a flagship title”. More points can therefore be earned through tournaments, trophies or super rankings. For PlayStation Plus fans, each purchase made on the PlayStation Store will also earn them points.

A semblance of NFT

All points earned will be available in the player’s PlayStation account. He can exchange them for digital collectibles. These are actually references to the history of video games, consoles or characters from the Sony universe. Another option, Sony has raised the possibility of exchanging these points for funds in the PlayStation Network wallet, therefore, for games.

So, according to Grace Chen, there will always be a new collectible to win, an ultra-rare item to covet, or something surprising to collect. “for pleasure”. On the other hand, like NFTs, therefore non-fungible tokens, players will not be able to exchange or sell their collection.

This loyalty program, intended for players on PS4 and PS5, should see the light of day in 2022. “You will be able to sign up for PlayStation Stars for free when it launches this year”says the ticket.
