On Sunday March 17, Aunis athletics is organizing the 43rd edition of the La Rochelle half-marathon. This year, a 5 km race is taking place.
Five months following the La Rochelle marathon, full of success, the capital of Charente-Maritime once once more hosts a major sporting event. This is the half-marathon organized by Aunis athletics, the second sporting event in terms of number of participants in La Rochelle, scheduled for March 17.
“We are in the euphoria of the preparation, the whole club is mobilizing, of course there is also the anxiety of forgetting something but above all the pleasure of seeing everyone getting more and more involved as time goes by. as the event draws nearer,” confides Mathieu Le Mouillour, the race director.
More than 3800 runners at the start
On the program, we find the main event, the half-marathon, a duo challenge (10 and 11 km) and a new feature, a 5 km race. “In this Olympic year, we are offering this new distance, accessible to as many people as possible, allowing everyone to participate and enjoy the celebration of running,” indicates the director
The La Rochelle half-marathon, made up of two loops entirely in the city and crossing the most popular spots in the city (such as the Old Port, the Allées du Mail or the Bay of Port-Neuf), represents a certain challenge for the participants. Indeed, the event is a qualifier for the French championships. “The elites find the conditions there to achieve very good times, some the opportunity to do a semi in an exceptional setting and others still the possibility of being a finisher of a 21 Km”, adds the organization.
Especially since, beyond the tourist sites discovered, participants will have a rather quick and flat route. “There are few difficulties except the coast of the Allée du Mail along the ocean in the direct vicinity of the Casino Barrière”, adds Mathieu Le Mouillour. A few days before the deadline, 3,800 people have already registered for this edition.
