Blizzard has made some changes to the Overwatch League for the new season. Everything you need to know is here.
The 6th season of Overwatch Liga starts soon. After Team Dallas Fuel was able to win their first official title with their victory in the 2022 season, we are already curious who will prevail this year. However, it will be quite a while before the finale in November. Until then, we have everything you need to start the Overwatch League 2023 need to know.
When does it start?
The official start of Overwatch League is April 27th this year. The season will again take place in circuit format as usual. These are not continuous leagues, such as the LEC in League of Legends. Circuit Seasons can be thought of more like a tennis season. Instead of a continuous league, there are always larger and smaller events during the season.
In order to shorten the waiting time until the start of the season, there will be a tournament in March this year with professional and amateur teams, with prize money of 100,000 US dollars. Who is allowed to take part will be decided in a preliminary round at a series of mini-tournaments. From these, seven teams from NA and EMEA will then be selected to play in the pro-amateur tournament.

How is the season structured?
In fact, there are quite a few innovations in the 6th season of the Overwatch League. Blizzard has changed some of the format.
As usual, there will again be two regions, East and West. The season itself will again be split into two parts, the Spring Stages and the Summer Stages. They are separated by the Midseason Madness Global Tournament, which, as you can imagine, brings together the best teams from both regions.
How it is decided who is allowed to take part in the midseason event is also changing, at least in the east. In the west everything stays more or less the same, whoever is good in the qualifiers goes into the KO phase and from there into midseason qualifiers.
In the eastern region, however, things are a little different this time. In the APAC and ANZ regions there will be a tournament with the Open Divisions and Contender Teams. The top teams from this tournament will then join the OWL teams in the KO phase of the Spring Stage and then compete for qualification into the Midseason Madness.
The Summer Stage will have more or less the same format. With the exception that this time the best Contender teams in the East start straight into the qualifiers.
As usual, the season will end with the Grand Finals in November.
