Under the motto Reading transforms, starting this Thursday the National Art Gallery (GAN), located on Mexico Avenue in Caracas, will host the 10th Venezuelan International Book Fair (Filven) for 20 days.
The programming was detailed by the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, who described this event as the country’s main cultural reference, “although there was competition: the Viva Venezuela World Festival,” he joked.
The fair event will be conducive to presenting one hundred titles by the Ministry of Culture, 60 by the Amalivaca publishing house and paying tribute to the researcher and writer Benito Irady, president of the Center for Cultural Diversity, who will present four publications, related to the historical dynamics and culture that is registered in the state of Sucre.
Villegas was accompanied by the president of the National Book Center and vice minister, Raúl Cazal, and a representative of the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture of South Africa, the country honored this year. Together with the president of the National Library of South Africa, he announced that this nation will provide one of the surprises of this cultural festival, with the installation of an immersive experience with virtual reality at its stand.
Although he did not give details, he reported on the inauguration of a plaza next to the GAN headquarters building, to connect children and young people with the children’s stand that this year will be called The sea above.
Among other information, Filven 2024, which will formally open its doors to the public starting Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, will pay tribute to the Delta Amacuro state, one hundred years since the novel Ifigenia by Teresa de la Parra, Tricolor magazine for its 75 years, the Ayacucho Library for its 50 years, the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity for its 20 years and will make a special mention of the Carabobo writer Ida Gramcko for the hundred years of her birth.
“There is no blockade that can with the strength of Venezuelan culture,” Villegas warned and announced that next year the guest country will be Egypt.
Cazal, for his part, assured that China comes with a “ton” of books, writers and publishers in order to strengthen our commercial ties in publishing. l
