The cable car that connects Ra Valles and Tofana di Mezzo, in Cortina, in the province of Belluno, was disconnected last Sunday due to an electrical fault. According to Corriere delle Alpi, there were about 30 tourists on board at the time, none of whom were injured. The cabin was violently disconnected from the departure station, swinging and giving the sensation of falling into the void and making passengers fear the worst. The cabin was then made safe and there were no injuries.
The release triggered the emergency brake. The control officer was reportedly present in the cockpit and, after the release of the cabin, tried to reassure the tourists, explaining that the second engine of the system would bring the cabin back to safety, as it actually happened. Only a lot of fear for the people on board: a Mottarone-bis avoided.
