Several hundred people rushed to the cathedral forecourt Saint Jean-Baptiste in Perpignan, to be able to attend the funeral of the singer, this Tuesday followingnoon.
Among the crowd, several figures of cinema and song such as Cali, Mathilde Seigner, Gérard Lanvin, or even Jean-Marie Périer, who also came to say their farewells to Dani, in the cathedral of Perpignan where the artist was baptized like her sisters, before taking her communion there.
Eldest of three children, the one who will become “Dani” spent her childhood and youth in Perpignan, the city where she arrived as a baby. Danièle Graule, born in the Tarn, went to Paris at 19 where she joined the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She will start her carrfirst as a model, then became an actress in the cinema with small roles and a singer.
According to our colleague Marc Tamon from France 3 Pays Catalan, who is reporting on the ceremony broadcast this evening in our regional newspaper, “Everyone adored Dani in Perpignan, she was much appreciated for her simplicity and her kindness”.
The former manager of the French rugby team and childhood friend of Dani, Jo Maso, was also present at this religious ceremony.
Dani’s life has not always been rosy: following the yéyé era, the former muse experienced a bad patch and a drug-related descent into hell. Then she bounced back on the front of the stage with, in particular his duet “Like a boomerang” with Etienne Daho in 2001.
The latter, who was still in contact with her the day before her death, paid her a moving tribute on the social networks where he evokes multiple memories:
You the unclassifiable, free, so young. Model, actress, magazine leader, singer, rose grower. You did everything with the elegance of dilettantes, surfing, off the beaten track, without letting yourself be locked up in the boxes in which we wanted to lock you up, charming your world with your mischief and your deep, sensitive voice, hidden in the volutes smoke from your cigarettes. So rock, but you for real.
Etienne Daho, for Dani
Dani died at the age of 77, on the night of Monday to Tuesday July 19, following a malaise, in the region of Tours where she lived.
She will be buried in the family vault of the Saint-Martin cemetery, in Perpignan, in privacy.
