Actions and initiatives are finalized in continuous meetings at the Maximos Palace, while ministers and top party officials hold contacts in Thessaloniki, in the final stretch of the visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis on September 7 and 8.

Agenda

Accuracy, housing crisis, Health, Education, Justice are the fields that are at the forefront of Megaros Maximos’ agenda, according to government sources. The same officials report that the government received a strong mandate a year ago to implement a program that will improve the daily life of citizens at the end of the four-year period and will strengthen our country. The duty and primary concern of the government is to respond to the requests of the present in terms of the present and the future, explained the government representative Pavlos Marinakis.

Social alliance

In the same direction, the deputy minister in addition to the prime minister, Thanasis Kontogiorgis, emphasized (First Program): “Last year around this time, a mandate was given and this mandate is for four years. Obviously, along this path, of each government, there will be ups and downs. The main thing, what I think we should keep, is that the prime minister systematically invested in a wider alliance, social, I would say, which wanted a normality in its life, wanted things to move forward, the country to move forward, not to turn back in logics of the past and to see changes in everyday life. He invests in this social alliance. This is the main direction in policies, these are the things we work for and therefore in the end the citizens will evaluate what has been done and what may not have been done and make their decisions. However, we are here to work and for no other reason.”

Christos Staikouras: Exact date for the Thessaloniki Metro

Ahead of Mr. Mitsotakis’ visit to Thessaloniki, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, in an interview with ERT, said that the Prime Minister will not simply announce this year that the Thessaloniki Metro will start operating next November, but will give a specific date. In particular, Mr. Staikouras said: “The 13 Metro stations will be operational in November 2024. A specific date will be given by the prime minister at TIF and it will be implemented by the end of 25 and the addition of the extension to Kalamaria”. Regarding FlyOver, the minister pointed out that the government’s ambition is to have it completed in 2027, despite the obstacles from the appeals of some residents and collectives: “About 80 vehicles of the consortium and 250 workers are there and they are working on many and different fronts” he said Mr. Staikouras.
