Every second resident of the Baltic countries uses travel insurance. An expert advises how to save | Business

According to the survey, although travel is the favorite way of spending summer vacations among Lithuanians (58%), Estonians use travel insurance the most. Always or most of the time travel insurance was indicated by 54% of users. Lithuanians and Latvians and 62 percent. Estonian respondents.

Only 16% indicated that they use long-term travel insurance. Lithuanians, 17 percent. Latvians and 16 percent Estonian respondents. 4, 2 and 3 percent, respectively. respondents use this insurance if they plan a trip related to sports activities.

“The volume of travel increases especially in the summer, which increases the risk of unforeseen incidents: delayed or canceled flights, lost luggage or injuries sustained during the trip. All this can not only spoil the holiday mood, but also cause significant financial losses. Evaluating this, people are increasingly opting for insurance and at least that way to compensate possible unexpected expenses”, says Rūta Ežerskienė, member of the board of Citadele bank, responsible for retail banking in the Baltic countries.

Respondents would most appreciate if the travel insurance package included health insurance (81% of Lithuanians, 87% of Estonians and 84% of Latvians), accident insurance (71% of Lithuanians, 72% of Estonians and 73% of Latvians) , lost baggage insurance (38 percent of Lithuanians, 53 percent of Estonians and 46 percent of Latvians) and flight delay or delay insurance (31 percent of Lithuanians and Latvians and 41 percent of Estonians).

The possibility of car rental insurance is also important to those surveyed (11 percent of Lithuanians, 3 percent of Estonians and 7 percent of Latvians) and sports and active leisure insurance (10 percent of Lithuanians, 3 percent of Estonians and 8 percent of Latvians).

“We travel more and more diversely, both in terms of transport, geography and activities. This is also reflected in the insurance market – we see a growing range of insurance protections, which increasingly helps to meet the individual needs of travelers,” shares the insights of a member of the Citadele Bank board.

According to R. Ežerskienė, travel insurance can usually be purchased by purchasing a travel package or booking flight tickets and hotel separately. However, she advises first to check whether travel insurance is valid with the payment card you have.

“Check what’s included in the card’s payment plan, especially if you have a credit card—they often already have travel insurance. Also check the terms of the insurance: whether it applies only to you or to family members traveling together, whether there are additional protections required for your trip – for example, if you promise to rent a car or engage in active sports. It will take some time, but you will not overpay and you will be able to feel more relaxed during your vacation”, advises R. Ežerskienė.
