SHEFFIELD, England (AP) — Everton finally ended their goal drought with a 2-2 draw at Sheffield United on Saturday, giving both teams their first point of the season.
Arnaut Danjuma equalized for the visitors on 55 minutes and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a double save in stoppage time to preserve the tie.
Everton were the only team not to score in the first three games, but Abdoulaye Doucoure rebounded from a corner kick to put Sean Dyche’s team ahead on 14 minutes. It was Everton’s first league goal since Doucoure scored on the final day of last season, ending a 316-minute goalless run.
Cameron Archer made it 1-1 at 33 minutes following a combination with Oliver McBurnie in the box, and the home team took the lead with a bit of luck before the break. Archer hit the post past Pickford’s dive and the ball bounced off the keeper’s back into the net.
But Danjuma, who arrived in the summer from Villarreal, took advantage of a Nathan Patterson cross at the far post and Everton held up in the final minutes and Pickford’s figure rose.
