Even without Jaissle, Salzburg celebrated their 2-0 opening win in Altach

One day following Matthias Jaissle’s surprising departure to Saudi Arabia, the series champion won 2-0 (1-0) in Altach. Sturm new acquisition Petar Ratkov (34th) and his Serbian colleague Strahinja Pavlovic (48th) each scored with a head. Altach pulled out of the affair respectably in the first game under Joachim Standfest.

In front of 5,874 spectators, the Jaissle assistants Florens Koch and Alexander Hauser fielded an eleven with an average age of only 21.7 years. Only five Salzburg starters from the last championship game in 2022/23 experienced the kick-off on the rain-soaked Altach lawn. The new acquisitions Alexander Schlager (goal), Aleksa Terzic (back left), Ratkov and returnee Nene Dorgeles were allowed to begin.

This also has to do with the currently long list of injuries. Andreas Ulmer, Luka Sucic, Nicolas Capaldo, Fernando and Sekou Koita are among others currently recovering from injuries. Storm tank Atdhe Nuhiu was stable on the bench for the time being. Noah Bischof was flanked in the center by Lukas Fadinger and Jan Jurcec. The ÖFB-U21 attacker should remain unlucky.

Salzburg dictated the first half as expected, but lacked coordination and precision. Lucas Gourna-Douath found the first real chance following 25 minutes. The Frenchman put a header extension from a corner kick wide of Altach’s new goalie Dejan Stojanovic’s goal. The hosts were well organized, closed the center with great effort and even found the first opportunity. Fadinger almost surprised Schlager with a shot into the near post (20′).

Salzburg’s class showed itself following half an hour. While Bischof narrowly missed Schlager’s goal from the best position (32′), Ratkov jubilantly slid towards the corner flag two minutes later. Karim Konate, who dodged on the wing, found the head of the Serbian newcomer with his precise cross (34th). At this point in time, the favorite was not said to have playful brilliance, but rather merciless effectiveness.

The Altachers, who were five years older on average, continued to have their moments. Schlager was there for a sly free kick from Fadinger (38′). In the subsequent corner kick, Constantin Reiner headed over the goal (39′). The guests made the preliminary decision quickly following the restart.

After a corner kick from Maurits Kjaergaard, Pavlovic headed in with an amazing air position (48′). In terms of air sovereignty, Salzburg clearly set the tone that day. After that, the combinations became more fluid – and Altach faltered. Stojanovic saved his team from conceding a third goal once morest Ratkov (50′) and Konate (75′).

Standfest brought fresh offensive power with Gustavo Santos and Nuhiu. But not much should happen in front of ÖFB team goalie Schlager. Mads Bidstrup made his debut at Salzburg. The Dane was brought out of the Premier League to organize midfield instead of neo-Leipziger Nicolas Seiwald. Salzburg, who are now unbeaten in seven games once morest Altach, brought the game home without any problems. The champions will play their home game once morest WSG Tirol next Sunday (1:3 once morest Klagenfurt). Altach is a guest at Rapid on Saturday (1-1 once morest LASK).
