EVE Online – Fanfest 2022 – CCP invests in the lore of EVE Online and deepens its universe

During the FanFest 2022 conferences, several presentations highlighted the lore of the space MMORPG EVE Online, marking the studio’s desire to deepen it.

CCP Games provides a lot of background work on the depth of the game. The introduction of story arcs, combined with the return of expansions — last quarter 20222 — for general content and other punctuated additions will bring a lot of context to the universe .

Obviously, the studio can’t reveal too many aspects of these upcoming arcs. The idea is really that the player wonders “but what’s going on?” » and that he is drowned in a universe which exceeds him, him as a person, but which will be able to federate the players around a common goal. Events will take on proportions that will upset the microcosm of the universe ofEve Online.

To expand this lore, we can also see many cutscenes, which introduce characters, more and more numerous and important, but also places, planets, stations. All of this will probably never be introduced into the game, but it gives context and depth to the universe.

The players will be central in this evolution. The achievements, events, reactions that are orchestrated by the players will influence the story arcs that CCP will introduce in the years to come. Even now, being able to tell ourselves that, somewhere, our actions were part of an evolving story, it’s gratifying when you’re as invested as EVE Online players are. It is enough to see, during this FanFest, the various players who recall their memories and say to themselves “we were present”, it is very unifying for the community and the will of CCP is to push this aspect.

There is also interest in the different factions, in this aspect of the game. For example, the Empire will be able to give objectives to be achieved, as quickly as possible. The faction that gets there first might have exclusive technologies. And if factions don’t perform, they might find themselves in a very precarious state that might directly undermine the governments from which they came.

In short, CCP wants to give life to its universe, to integrate the player into its story. And following 20 years of existence, few titles can boast such an impressive history.
