Evacuation Undergoing as 47 Villages Abandoned: Border Tensions Reach Boiling Point with Russia

Authorities in Kharkiv, in eastern Ukraine, which is being bombed with particular intensity by Russian forces, ordered the forced removal of families with children from 47 villages near the border with Russia.

The order concerns communities in three regions, Bokhodokhiv, Izium and Kharkiv, said the governor of the Kharkiv region Oleh Sinekhubov, yesterday, Thursday, via Telegram. However, it does not concern the regional capital, he added.

The reason for this evacuation is the almost daily bombing of cities by the Russian army. The governor pledged that everyone affected by this order will receive appropriate humanitarian and legal assistance.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, a young girl was killed in shelling by Russian forces in Kharkiv’s Lipchi village, just 10 kilometers from the border with Russia.

According to the protothema, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday appealed to Western allies to supply it Ukraine with more weapons as more than a dozen energy plants have been damaged or disabled since mid-March due to Russian bombing.

“We need air defense systems and other defense assistance, not just turning a blind eye and having long talks,” he wrote in a post on X.

The Ukrainian president repeated the request after a meeting he had yesterday in Vilnius with the Lithuanian president Gitanas Nausenda. “For us, air defense is the number one issue, the first priority,” Zelensky noted.
