The authorities of the Russian region of Belgorod, bordering Ukraine, decided on Tuesday to evacuate nearly 9,000 children to other regions of Russia.
« Today, we are resettling a large number of villages. We plan to relocate about 9,000 children from the city of Belgorod, Belgorod district, Chebekinsky district and Graivoronsky district”, announced the governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, during a meeting of the committee of the General Council of the United Russia party.
“On March 22, 1,200 children will go to Penza, Tambov and Kaluga. (…) The system has been put in place“, he said, noting that over the past week, 16 people have been killed and 98 injured due to strikes on the region from Ukraine.
According to Mr. Gladkov, three people, including a 14-year-old minor, were injured on Tuesday during an attack attributed to Ukraine. The day before, four members of the same family died after a missile hit their house, he added.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that it had neutralized a Ukrainian sabotage group in the area bordering the Belgorod region.
« The reconnaissance of the West group made it possible to discover a concentration of Ukrainian forces and sabotage groups (…) in a forest area on the border of the Belgorod region. A high-precision pre-emptive strike neutralized the concentrations of troops and equipment“, according to a press release from the department.
In addition, Russian forces destroyed the positions of several Ukrainian sabotage groups near the Kursk region, north of Belgorod, through strikes with hovering bombs, according to the same source.
In another press release, the Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of a Ukrainian drone over the Belgorod region.
Since the start of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict in February 2022, Russian regions bordering Ukraine, such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh, have regularly reported bombings and drone attacks from across the river. border.
