Eurostar announced this Saturday evening the normal resumption of the circulation of its trains on Sunday, following the flooding of two tunnels in the south of England disrupted traffic on Saturday, stranding around 30,000 passengers on New Year’s Eve. “We confirm that we will provide the service initially planned. Our stations will be very busy in view of the disruptions of this” on Saturday, the company said on X (formerly Twitter).
All Eurostar trains were canceled this Saturday, during one of the busiest weekends of the year. No Eurostar trains were able to depart from Paris Gare du Nord or London St Pancras International. According to a press release from the company, a subsidiary of SNCF, 41 trains were canceled in total. This represents around 30,000 passengers stuck in London, Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam.
Exchange or cancellation
“Sorry for the inconvenience“, wrote Eurostar this Saturday noon on its site. The company offers passengers to exchange their reservation for a trip at a later date or cancel their ticket.
On December 21, in the middle of the holiday departure period, Eurostar passengers were already faced with numerous train cancellations due to a surprise strike which paralyzed the Channel Tunnel. A total of 30 trains were canceled that day, leaving thousands of travelers without a solution. Some then turned to the bus or the plane at the last moment, in the hope of reaching their loved ones in time for Christmas. Eurostar traffic finally resumed on December 22.
