The negotiations for the extensions of the tram from Liège to Herstal and Seraing were linked to European subsidies which had to be spent before the end of 2026. The European Commission has just approved a change in the allocation of subsidies provided for in the Belgian recovery plan. Following the misadventures of the Liège tram extension file to the neighboring municipalities of Herstal and Seraing that Europe had decided to support, the Region asked to allocate the 105 million planned to two other projects, also mobility, also in Liège also: a maxi-depot of TEC in Tilleur and the purchase of 32 electric buses to be used on the high level of service lines which must complement the tram in the Liège region.
