European Social Survey: Satisfaction with Political Management During Health Crisis and Factors Influencing Individual Opinion

2023-10-03 05:39:00

The European Social Survey (ESS) surveyed the degree of satisfaction of the European population with the political management established in the face of the health crisis. The measures studied focused on different areas such as economic aid, support for families with children, policy for the elderly in nursing homes, etc. Furthermore, the factors that might influence individual satisfaction were also scrutinized.

In total, 1,341 Belgians selected at random gave their opinion on the Covid policy of our public authorities.

According to the study, the national health system is the institution that received the highest satisfaction rate from respondents (6.9). Conversely, the enormous pressure exerted on caregivers and the high mortality rates in residential care centers result in the sanction vote of 4.7 out of 10. The Flemish, however, declare themselves slightly more satisfied with the policy to fight once morest Covid than the Walloons.

An important discovery by Belgian scientists in the face of extreme Covid cases

The average satisfaction score in Belgium is 5.5 out of 10. “It appears that the public authorities have done well as best they can, but in terms of satisfaction with politics, this score is not so bad. Even compared to other European countries and our neighbors – the Netherlands scores 5.6 and Germany 5.1 – the result is decent,” says Professor Bart Meuleman, from KUL Sociological Research Center.
