CHISINAU, Moldova (ots/PRNewswire) – Moldova’s dynamic and growing wine industry played a key role in this European Political Community Summit 2023, which took place on June 1st. Over 500 international journalists met with 47 delegates from across Europe at the magnificent Mimi Castle in Bulboaca – a Moldovan winery that combines beauty, authenticity and taste. Hosted for the first time by a non-EU country, this summit to discuss the key issues currently facing the continent is a clear endorsement of Moldova’s growing economic and strategic importance and its orientation towards EU integration .
During the summit, visitors were taken on a fast-paced tour of the country’s important wine industry: Moldova is now the world’s fourteenth largest wine exporter and the Moldovan wine industry contributes around three percent to GDP. In fact, it’s the country with the most vines per capita, like Jancis Robinson MW at one Financial Times article entitled “Moldova navigates the politics of winemaking.” “Moldova has many natural advantages as a wine producer,” Robinson pointed out. “Furthermore, many Moldovan vineyards have two things in common with modern Burgundy: latitude and limestone.” Moldovan wines have won 5,014 international awards over the past decade, and the momentum continues to gather momentum.
But for some visitors, Moldova’s native grape varieties and unique growing areas were a gem just waiting to be discovered. Wine of Moldova (a national wine brand) was therefore delighted to organize a special event exclusively for accredited journalists. Titled “Tasting Moldova – Meet Our Local Producers!”, the Moldova program showcased high-quality wine, tourism and agricultural products. All journalists received a welcome pack upon accreditation, containing a selection of Moldovan wines to taste first-hand and might experience.
Wine of Moldova also took the opportunity to present its strategic vision for the future sustainable development of the industry. This year, the marketing organization launched the #10yearsofwinerevolution campaign, designed to showcase how – and why – the country’s wine industry is adapting to compete on the world stage.
The organization’s key players plan to raise $500 million over the next five years and invest heavily in land and equipment. Moldova is also striving to become a world-class destination, with a growing number of wineries offering authentic experiences that offer the best of the Napa, Stellenbosch and Mendoza wine regions. Native grape varieties, new winemakers, a historical wine culture: Moldova is already preparing for the next big international event where it can present its excellent wines to the world.
