30 euros is the amount of the fine that Philip was fined following parking in Antwerp. For the fiftieth, it’s misunderstanding when everything seemed in order: the disc was clearly visible, the arrival time well indicated. “I mightn’t understand what I had done wrong,” he explained to journalists from Het Laatste Nieuws. “My parents live in this street, I park there for years. I assumed an error had occurred”.
Hoping to contest his fine, Philip therefore contacted the parking company, which explained to him the reason for this fine: the disc only included the inscription of the arrival time in German. However, since 2003, a European directive requires that the inscriptions be affixed in the three national languages: German, English and French.
” I did not know ”
A regulation that Philip completely ignored. “Honestly, I didn’t know that,” he laments. “I’ve used this record for years.”
Philip has understood this, he will have no choice but to pay his fine. “I don’t even know where I bought this record,” he concludes. “I’ve had it for years and never had a problem with it. Anyway, I know now and so I’m going to buy a new one”.
