Industry Commissioner of European Union (EU), Mr. Thierry Breton, on January 31 urged the owner of social networks Twitterbillionaire Elon Musktake further action to fully comply with this block’s online content rules.
The two had an online meeting two months ago in which Breton warned Musk that Twitter needs to work hard to adopt transparent usage policies that strengthen content moderation. and protect freedom of speech on their platform.

Those obligations are enshrined in the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), effective November 2022.
The act targets online platforms and threatens to fine them up to 6% of their global revenue if they violate them.
There are concerns regarding Twitter’s ability to comply with the obligations required by the DSA, following billionaire Musk cut thousands of jobs since taking over the company.
In addition, Commissioner Breton told Musk that he is mindful of the resources and tools that Twitter is allocating to address safety and trust issues across the EU in all languages. .
Over the next few weeks, Twitter will face a system stability test during the crisis.
The EU Commissioner also stressed the importance of Twitter fulfilling its commitments to the EU’s Code of Practice on Misinformation. Companies that have signed up to the pledge will publish a report on their efforts next week.
In his speech following meeting with billionaire Musk, Mr. Breton expressed appreciation for the efforts Twitter is making to bring the operation in line with European goals.
At the same time, he stressed that the coming months will be crucial for the social network, as the EU wants to see more progress towards full DSA compliance.
Breton said the EU side will closely follow the regulatory process of Twitter and all other online platforms.
On his personal Twitter page, billionaire Musk posted an article regarding a good meeting with Mr. Breton, saying that the DSA’s goals of transparency, accountability and accurate information are in line with the direction of the company. Twitter./.
