The European Medicines Agency has reported risks associated with dietary supplements containing Omega-3 fatty acids, according to the Daily Mail.

Recent research indicates that Omega-3 ethyl esters may increase the likelihood of developing atrial fibrillation, which in turn increases the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It also follows from the material that with atrial fibrillation, the heartbeat becomes irregular and rapid.

It is noted that the EMA recommends that manufacturers of supplements high in Omega-3 content include warnings regarding the possible risk in the product instructions.
